Hello everyone!
Writing to you out of bed as I’m sick, the third day stuck in bed… What I first thought was pollen turned into a massive cold. In May? How did I deserve this? Especially now that I have so much writing to do for my thesis… Very bad timing.
But to cheer me up, well no, this was planned way before haha. But, the lovely Lea from A Freeze Frame and her All You Knit Is Love Podcast and me are having a joined Knit-A-Long together!

You maybe have already heard about it on our podcasts or read about it in the ravelry groups, but since Monday 11th of May until the end of June we are hosting a Baby KAL ! We were both knitting the Newborn Vertebrae and got chatting about baby patterns which ended into hosting this KAL together! So far we have the lovely Vicky from Baerenwolle who will give a skein of her yarn to one lovely winner! And also someone will win a pattern, which is yet a secret πŸ™‚ If anyone else wants to sponsor, get in contact with us !
So we have a chatter thread in Leas ravelry group and a FO thread in my group and at the end we will have winners out of each group. You all, this is so exciting!

And for all of you who are just as undecided what to knit here is a bit of an inspiration:

PS: Drops is having a massive -35% deal going on at the moment, it is worth checking out, as I love working with their yarn!

I’m alive

life had been very busy lately but I have something really fun coming up and am in a very happy place right now, or just as happy as one can be with the deadline of the final thesis being like end of May?! Haha.

So what has happened? I went to Desden with my lacrosse team and we came second in the Lax in the Box tournament! Which is just insane! My knee was and is still hurting a lot though but coming second?!? So awesome! We even got a medal!!!

I’ve been at university almost all week long and working with the data from my eye tracking experiment! It has been nerve wracking but also very interesting and the whole thing has so much potential, I have to watch out not to get too much into it all as I’m only writing a bachelors thesis right now and not yet a masters!

On Sunday is the last game of this season and it is a win win situation as in its either us or the other team who will get a place for the play offs! So we want to win this game so badly and it would be just amazing to go to the play offs!!! It would be such a great ending to my time playing for Victoria Lacrosse Berlin!

Time is flying bye so so quickly. I still have so much things to organise before my move to Australia and I can’t really do any of them as I have my head focused on my thesis!

Weather in berlin is getting nicer and nicer and I’ve been wearing my Birkenstocks and dresses without tights! So awesome! Well I leave the house in the mornings with leggings and as soon as I’m at university the leggings go straight into my backpack πŸ™‚

I went to a talk about the Russian Ukrainians crisis at the GMF in berlin and it was very interesting and I’ve learnt a lot!

But now I’m going to sleep. I have to get up extra early tomorrow cause the train personnel is on strike and I have no clue how easy it will be for me to get to work tomorrow morning as I have to take the Sbahn and not the Ubahn which I take to get to university…

Oh and tomorrow night we have lacrosse team night at my place! All the girls at mine and we will order food and talk and have a great time πŸ™‚

I also hope to record a new podcast episode on Saturday with a special giveaway coming up!

knitting WIP’s and more links

So today I thought I will share a bit about the projects I am working on at the moment!

WIPs #1

WIPs #1

ok, So appologiese from the beginning for these very bad iPhone pictures. I have my Olympus camera right next to me, but can’t be bothered. Sorry…
My WIPs at the moment:

  • My first LOKI cardigan, which I am knitting for my little niece in Australia. I finally did the steek on Sunday, which you probably have read about already πŸ˜‰ so now it is again on my to do list, find a zipper and sew it in… how long will this take?
  • The Age of Brass and Steam kerchiefΒ made out of yarn I bought in Chile back in November last year! The first project with any of the many yarns I brought back. I’m on the last rows but still undecided how to end it … Been like this for weeks now Β oh oh.
  • My rainbow blanket! I started with the edging now and boy is this stupid to knit! So many stitches! I’m onto row three now out of nine maybe? I’m also wondering if I should add some colour to the edge or not? Probably not, the grey and the coloured yarn is not the same ply so it might not look too nice?
  • My first pair of socks I am knitting for myself! Its the free Hermione’s Everyday Socks Pattern and I am trying to enter the KAL hosted by Yarnderwoman
  • I started the Riddari Jumper for my boyfriend but so far I don’t have a lot going on… But I know as soon as I am into it, this jumper will fly off my needles quickly! Remember how I knitted mine in only NINE days???
  • I am test knitting the Olivia shawl for my lovely chilean friend Nina ! I’m happy I don’t have to finish in time, but I really enjoy knitting on this. It is very easy to memorise and I can’t wait to see it all blocked. And this is a special project to me as I bought the yarn together with Nina in Santiago!
  • And the Fabel yarn on the top is going to become a cardigan! One of my boyfriends cousins is expecting a baby in August, a girl, so it will be fun to knit this. There is so much baby knitting going on at the moment, Lea is knitting for her sister who is expecting and yesterday I found out that a dear friend is expecting a baby in late October too! So exciting! I think most of my stash will go to projects for little ones πŸ™‚

Other then this, what else is going on knitting or yarn related wise?

The lovely Lea has started a podcast which is so adorable πŸ˜‰ She lives in Paris and I love following her on instagram and seeing all the things she knits!

I don’t have to tell you that I am a big fan of Ninas podcast, right? If you haven’t checked her out, go and do it now! It is just as if we were back in Santiago having lunch, seems like she is a podcasting natural!

I am also following Vicky on both instagram and her blogg, she has recently started to dye yarn and the pictures just look so so great! I’ve contacted her about maybe collaborating for a giveaway on the podcast? Stay tuned for more information on that, so exciting!

The Berliner Dom and the Alexander TV Tower

I have been working today again, we had a really lovely day in Berlin today! It was almost up to 22Β°C ! I was missing my sandals badly but soon. I just can’t get sick at the moment, too much going on! But I got all my plants back (I had them at a friends to take care of them while my apartment got renovated while I was in Australia), had a jummie vegan Burger with friends and just enjoyed the sun!

I am not too sure when I will have time to record a new podcast, make sure to follow the Chanel on youtube and come and join the group on Ravelry, it always makes me happy if you comment and interact with me :*

Steeking Sunday!Β

Today was the first day this week where I did not had anything planned. So when I went to bed last night I switched off my alarm and hopes to sleep long and tight. Of corse I woke up at around six the first time and then around nine, I couldn’t sleep anymore.

So I was not sure what to do with this Sunday. It was a lovely day and I don’t want to go to a fleamarket as not buying anything is kind of depressing sometimes. There is just no point in acquiring more stuff as I’m moving overseas in 92 (!!!) days.

So I overcame my fear and decides to finally do the steeking in two projects. The Loki jumper to turn into a cardigan and a blanked knitted in the round. The first one is knitted in lett lopi, a really nice low processed yarn from Iceland, perfect for steeking and the blanket in different types of cotton. When I first came to the point where the steek would have been necessary in my blanket, I started reading and so many places suggested not to steek cotton as it doesn’t felt. Bummer I thought and put the blanket in a bag and on the bottom of my closet. It was there for many months! And then I knit the Loki cardigan. And then put it aside for quite a bit because of the steek. Last week I was talking on ravelry with Mina about steeking and she said talked about a tutorial about steeking cotton. While I never found the one she was talking about, I did find others and so the steeking bee stung me and I got my sewing machine out!

I first started with the Loki, as it is smaller and the perfect wool for steeking. It worked perfectly but I would have hoped to have knit the steek some stitches wider, the pattern asked for three stitches, five would have been better I think.

And then I just continued with the blanket. The pattern said to sew each row three times but I only did it once each. And then I cut. And it worked fine too.

So now I only have to decide on weather a button band or a zipper for the cardigan and to knit the border around the blanket and attach a fabric on the back to protect the blanket a bit more, all those floats…

Pigeon jumper is done!

I started this jumper a while ago it seems like but I’ve been busy and had other things on my needles too but what a relief that it is done now and I’m quite happy with how it turned out.
It’s a pattern by Helga Isager and from the same book as the Dandelion cardigan which I’m knitting too. Unlikely the cardigan this pattern was ok to read and to knit. I had to improvise here and there but it’s done. Ok the ends need weaving in but other than that’s it’s done!
Another Christmas present is finished and less project to take with me on my upcoming holiday to Tasmania!

Already Friday?

So time is flying by so fast right now. But that is usually the case when you have a lot to do and Β not really enough time to get everything done.

So since I came back I haven’t been home much, just been working, babysitting, at university, at my ‘real’ job, physiotherapy and acupuncture… Today I went to three of the mentioned places, left the house at 07:50 and came back around 21:35 ! Too crazy!

I did knit today which is really nice. Been watching Knit All The Things, a really nice podcast by Cara from Wales and it is really nice to watch a knitting podcast by a young person πŸ™‚ And I love her english accent too! I’ve been catching up with her episodes so now I am up to date again and I knitted on my Pigeon Jumper for my niece in Australia. I’m on the first sleeve now. The body was done in Chile! Now I’m writing here and watching the first episode by Little Bobbins Knits but when I look at my watch I should rather sleep!

I cancelled tomorrows morning babysitting which I am happy about. I watched the two kids today and the big one got a stomach bug which I have the feeling I got too cause I am feeling really weird in my stomach. So I am not in the best mood right now. And I got my pictures which I took with my La Sardinia analog Camera in Chile and most of them are just not nice. I don’t know what happened. I used the camera a lot but this roll is just really bad quality and I can’t really explain it. I am super sad! I did take my big digital camera and another analog one but because of my friends telling me about another of their friends who travelled alone being robbed I was a bit too afraid to take the big cameras with me especially because I was wandering the streets by myself a lot and I don’t speak Spanish… I did take a lot of pictures with my phone but they got into stupid iPhoto, which I just hate…

But, I got my boyfriends christmas calendar all done and I might even post it tomorrow so I have less to put in my suitcase! Which would actually be really nice! I already have so much to take and it is always a question of weight at the end. Never the space always the 30 kg :/

Ok, Good Night.
