FIVE days left…

Time is running and there is still a lot to do and then I am going away this weekend… Well I would probably not have done anything on Saturday even if I would have stayed in Berlin but, it does feel bad. Shouldn’t I be in front of my computer even if I would just stare at the screen? Well. I decided not to.
So in a few hours I am going away with my Lacrosse team for the last time in a long while probably and this is exactly a perfect reason why I decided not to stay home. Who cares if my thesis has these few mistakes? I won’t remember that in a few years but the fun I had on a weekend away with my lovely team girls! This is what I want!
And because I have a lot of finished knitting projects flying around that just need to be blocked, I did this during the moments when my internet was not working. And no internet, no work on my thesis. Bähm.

Blocking on my bed

Sorry for this very poor iPhone photo. The lighting is awful. My top lightbulb has been broken for a few days now, just have no time for stuff like this!
You can see my Nurmilintu, Saroyan and the Olivia Shawl. And yes I do double block so fronts and backs of cardigans match each other! Anyone else doing this too?
You might also notice that two shawls did not quite fit onto my bed, or was it me starting wrong? Anyway, even if I would have been more cautious, they are too big! Well too big for my bed, not too big for me 🙂

ok. this was quick. I still have to pack and have dinner.
Lovely weekend everyone!

Heirloom Cables Baby Sweater

So I finally casted on a project for Leas and my Knit-A-Long!
I decided on the Lion Brand Yarn Heriloom Cables Baby Sweater and I am using yarn which I bought in Chile. I’m halfway through the back and can’t wait to cast the fronts on 🙂

Hello everyone!
Writing to you out of bed as I’m sick, the third day stuck in bed… What I first thought was pollen turned into a massive cold. In May? How did I deserve this? Especially now that I have so much writing to do for my thesis… Very bad timing.
But to cheer me up, well no, this was planned way before haha. But, the lovely Lea from A Freeze Frame and her All You Knit Is Love Podcast and me are having a joined Knit-A-Long together!

You maybe have already heard about it on our podcasts or read about it in the ravelry groups, but since Monday 11th of May until the end of June we are hosting a Baby KAL ! We were both knitting the Newborn Vertebrae and got chatting about baby patterns which ended into hosting this KAL together! So far we have the lovely Vicky from Baerenwolle who will give a skein of her yarn to one lovely winner! And also someone will win a pattern, which is yet a secret 🙂 If anyone else wants to sponsor, get in contact with us !
So we have a chatter thread in Leas ravelry group and a FO thread in my group and at the end we will have winners out of each group. You all, this is so exciting!

And for all of you who are just as undecided what to knit here is a bit of an inspiration:

PS: Drops is having a massive -35% deal going on at the moment, it is worth checking out, as I love working with their yarn!

I’m alive

life had been very busy lately but I have something really fun coming up and am in a very happy place right now, or just as happy as one can be with the deadline of the final thesis being like end of May?! Haha.

So what has happened? I went to Desden with my lacrosse team and we came second in the Lax in the Box tournament! Which is just insane! My knee was and is still hurting a lot though but coming second?!? So awesome! We even got a medal!!!

I’ve been at university almost all week long and working with the data from my eye tracking experiment! It has been nerve wracking but also very interesting and the whole thing has so much potential, I have to watch out not to get too much into it all as I’m only writing a bachelors thesis right now and not yet a masters!

On Sunday is the last game of this season and it is a win win situation as in its either us or the other team who will get a place for the play offs! So we want to win this game so badly and it would be just amazing to go to the play offs!!! It would be such a great ending to my time playing for Victoria Lacrosse Berlin!

Time is flying bye so so quickly. I still have so much things to organise before my move to Australia and I can’t really do any of them as I have my head focused on my thesis!

Weather in berlin is getting nicer and nicer and I’ve been wearing my Birkenstocks and dresses without tights! So awesome! Well I leave the house in the mornings with leggings and as soon as I’m at university the leggings go straight into my backpack 🙂

I went to a talk about the Russian Ukrainians crisis at the GMF in berlin and it was very interesting and I’ve learnt a lot!

But now I’m going to sleep. I have to get up extra early tomorrow cause the train personnel is on strike and I have no clue how easy it will be for me to get to work tomorrow morning as I have to take the Sbahn and not the Ubahn which I take to get to university…

Oh and tomorrow night we have lacrosse team night at my place! All the girls at mine and we will order food and talk and have a great time 🙂

I also hope to record a new podcast episode on Saturday with a special giveaway coming up!

knitting WIP’s and more links

So today I thought I will share a bit about the projects I am working on at the moment!

WIPs #1

WIPs #1

ok, So appologiese from the beginning for these very bad iPhone pictures. I have my Olympus camera right next to me, but can’t be bothered. Sorry…
My WIPs at the moment:

  • My first LOKI cardigan, which I am knitting for my little niece in Australia. I finally did the steek on Sunday, which you probably have read about already 😉 so now it is again on my to do list, find a zipper and sew it in… how long will this take?
  • The Age of Brass and Steam kerchief made out of yarn I bought in Chile back in November last year! The first project with any of the many yarns I brought back. I’m on the last rows but still undecided how to end it … Been like this for weeks now  oh oh.
  • My rainbow blanket! I started with the edging now and boy is this stupid to knit! So many stitches! I’m onto row three now out of nine maybe? I’m also wondering if I should add some colour to the edge or not? Probably not, the grey and the coloured yarn is not the same ply so it might not look too nice?
  • My first pair of socks I am knitting for myself! Its the free Hermione’s Everyday Socks Pattern and I am trying to enter the KAL hosted by Yarnderwoman
  • I started the Riddari Jumper for my boyfriend but so far I don’t have a lot going on… But I know as soon as I am into it, this jumper will fly off my needles quickly! Remember how I knitted mine in only NINE days???
  • I am test knitting the Olivia shawl for my lovely chilean friend Nina ! I’m happy I don’t have to finish in time, but I really enjoy knitting on this. It is very easy to memorise and I can’t wait to see it all blocked. And this is a special project to me as I bought the yarn together with Nina in Santiago!
  • And the Fabel yarn on the top is going to become a cardigan! One of my boyfriends cousins is expecting a baby in August, a girl, so it will be fun to knit this. There is so much baby knitting going on at the moment, Lea is knitting for her sister who is expecting and yesterday I found out that a dear friend is expecting a baby in late October too! So exciting! I think most of my stash will go to projects for little ones 🙂

Other then this, what else is going on knitting or yarn related wise?

The lovely Lea has started a podcast which is so adorable 😉 She lives in Paris and I love following her on instagram and seeing all the things she knits!

I don’t have to tell you that I am a big fan of Ninas podcast, right? If you haven’t checked her out, go and do it now! It is just as if we were back in Santiago having lunch, seems like she is a podcasting natural!

I am also following Vicky on both instagram and her blogg, she has recently started to dye yarn and the pictures just look so so great! I’ve contacted her about maybe collaborating for a giveaway on the podcast? Stay tuned for more information on that, so exciting!

The Berliner Dom and the Alexander TV Tower

I have been working today again, we had a really lovely day in Berlin today! It was almost up to 22°C ! I was missing my sandals badly but soon. I just can’t get sick at the moment, too much going on! But I got all my plants back (I had them at a friends to take care of them while my apartment got renovated while I was in Australia), had a jummie vegan Burger with friends and just enjoyed the sun!

I am not too sure when I will have time to record a new podcast, make sure to follow the Chanel on youtube and come and join the group on Ravelry, it always makes me happy if you comment and interact with me :*

Steeking Sunday!

Today was the first day this week where I did not had anything planned. So when I went to bed last night I switched off my alarm and hopes to sleep long and tight. Of corse I woke up at around six the first time and then around nine, I couldn’t sleep anymore.

So I was not sure what to do with this Sunday. It was a lovely day and I don’t want to go to a fleamarket as not buying anything is kind of depressing sometimes. There is just no point in acquiring more stuff as I’m moving overseas in 92 (!!!) days.

So I overcame my fear and decides to finally do the steeking in two projects. The Loki jumper to turn into a cardigan and a blanked knitted in the round. The first one is knitted in lett lopi, a really nice low processed yarn from Iceland, perfect for steeking and the blanket in different types of cotton. When I first came to the point where the steek would have been necessary in my blanket, I started reading and so many places suggested not to steek cotton as it doesn’t felt. Bummer I thought and put the blanket in a bag and on the bottom of my closet. It was there for many months! And then I knit the Loki cardigan. And then put it aside for quite a bit because of the steek. Last week I was talking on ravelry with Mina about steeking and she said talked about a tutorial about steeking cotton. While I never found the one she was talking about, I did find others and so the steeking bee stung me and I got my sewing machine out!

I first started with the Loki, as it is smaller and the perfect wool for steeking. It worked perfectly but I would have hoped to have knit the steek some stitches wider, the pattern asked for three stitches, five would have been better I think.

And then I just continued with the blanket. The pattern said to sew each row three times but I only did it once each. And then I cut. And it worked fine too.

So now I only have to decide on weather a button band or a zipper for the cardigan and to knit the border around the blanket and attach a fabric on the back to protect the blanket a bit more, all those floats…

Monday already?

Time is flying fast right now people! It’s only 97 days until I fly to Australia! So excited!

So what has happened lately?
I have done my first two pre tests for the experiment for my thesis and both of them went very well. Or of course I had little problems with the equipment but the actual thing I am doing and investigating or how ever you would call it, worked just as I hoped for! Bähm! Great.

We have had wonderful weather over the weekend, which was great! On Sunday after the test a friend of mine and I went and had some soy icecream in a newly open cafe in my neighbourhood, which is crazy, we then went to a garden around here and enjoyed the sun. Lovely.

I’ve been writing with Nina (fuzzyloveknots or nlafountain) and she motivated me to finally finish my Amber vest !!! I was so worried the whole time that I wouldn’t have enough yarn, and yes, I did actually buy one more skein of the one yarn (the whole garment is knit out of four different yarns!)  and I got to use some scrap yarn as the other type has still not arrived at one of my LYS… don’t care anymore. And I’ve been wearing it ever since 🙂 I hope I will get some nicer pictures at some point (wow I’m hoping this about my Riddari too… so it won’t happen probably…)

The week ahead:
Monday: work on my thesis, do washing, grocery shopping
Tuesday: work, maybe another test, then university
Wednesday: experiment! 10-17 o’clock
Thursday: experiment!
Friday: experiment!
Saturday: experiment Hopefully only one

Other then that, I have also finished my Nurmilintu shawl as I though I would need the needles for the test knit I am doing for the above mentioned lovely Nina 🙂

So now I will continue watching Juniper Grace, look at some more apartments in Melbourne and think about dinner…

Sorry, not sorry.

So. I had big plans, very big plans. And then my normal routine came back and all the motivation and energy had run away…
I created so many posts and things I wanted to share in my head, I actually have a list written down of what I want to share but, life gets in the way…

So, today is Monday and I’m going to tell you a little bit about my week, what my plans are and what I want to do, and hopefully this will help me to organise my life a little bit better…

Monday: work on my thesis, go babysitting, organise with my flatmate for someone to sublease one of our rooms, transfer some money
Tuesday: work on my thesis, go babysitting
Wednesday: working, go to the library and get a book (Potsdam)
Thursday: working
Friday: have the option to work, but not sure, if not, thesis!
Saturday: work on thesis
Sunday: work on thesis

My main goal for this week is to finish writing my research proposal!
Talk to my lecturer about the questions I have and
finish knitting my Nurmilintu, or well, I will run out of yarn soon anyway so should think about what to do then…
